Presentation Formats

The sharing of knowledge, ideas and experiences in the field of academic development is always at the centre of any ICED conference. In the four main formats – paper presentations, workshops, round table/ seminars and poster presentations – the topic can be research oriented and/or practice oriented. It can be on concluded or on-going research, but the main goal in all these alternatives is to make the most of the aforementioned sharing. This, in turn, calls for a certain degree of transparency, where presenters, organizers and participants all know what to expect in terms of content, type of activity and time frames.

1) Paper presentations (20 min):

This format is primarily reserved for papers that are made available to the audience. Three paper presentations will be presented in one 90-minute session, where each presentation is given a 20 min time slot. Thereafter the audience gets 30 minutes for discussion and to pose questions to all presenters. Ideally the three papers will be within the same theme or will be related in some other way.

Paper presentation proposals should be in the form of an academic abstract (max 4000 characters) where content, literature and methods, as well as possible impact, is described. In addition, a 400 character summary for the program is to be submitted along with the abstract.

You will have the opportunity to get your full paper (max 5000 words) included in the digital conference proceedings by submitting your paper 2 months in advance of the conference. If you plan to have your paper published in a scientific journal, e.g. IJAD, you may have an extended abstract (max 2000 words) published in the proceedings. If you do not want to have your contribution published in the proceedings, you are expected to bring copies of your full paper or extended abstract and distribute to session participants at the conference.

2) Workshops (90 min):

Workshops offer an opportunity for hands-on work on a question, topic or method and includes a brief (maximum 10 minutes) introduction by the presenters, but the main goal of the session is the structured interaction between participants and with the presenter(s). The topic can demonstrate effective practices in educational development and sharing of experiences.

Workshop proposals (max 4000 characters) should be explicit regarding content and the scholarly basis as well as regarding how the session will be structured: type of activities, rough planning of time, and expected outcomes. In addition, a 400 character summary for the program is to be submitted along with the abstract.

3) Round table/ seminars (40 min):

Seminars/ round tables offer an opportunity to critically discuss a topic – led and organized by one or more presenters. The round table/seminar may include a presentation of some kind, but the main goal of the session is the structured discussion between participants on a pre-defined topic. The topic can be on-going research that the presenter(s) wish to get feedback on.

Round table/seminar proposals (max 4000 characters) should be explicit regarding content and scholarly basis. In addition, a 400 character summary for the program is to be submitted along with the abstract.

4) Poster presentations (3+2 min):

The conference posters will be presented in a structured format, where the audience is guided through a series of posters and the author(s) will make a short 3 minute oral presentations of the poster, followed by a 2 minute slot for questions from the group.

Poster proposals should be in the form of an abstract (max 4000 characters), outlining the content, literature and methods, as well as possible impact. In addition, a 400 character summary is to be submitted along with the abstract.
